  6. Many bulletin boards across the nation have a huge amount of
  7. software to choose from for download. Most have so many titles
  8. that determining which ones might be worth the download time is
  9. difficult. In this column, I will attempt to help you sort through
  10. the huge morass of shareware available and let you know which
  11. titles I feel are worth your evaluation. All the software reviewed
  12. in this column is available on many bulletin boards throughout the
  13. country. If you have difficulty locating a particular title, I
  14. recommend that you contact its author at the address listed.

  17. One of the recent trends in the commercial game market is
  18. the horror genre, and Apogee software is joining in the fray
  19. with their release MONSTER BASH. Weighing in at over 900k of
  20. download time and well over 1MB of disk space (more for the release
  21. version), monster bash is a great run-and-shoot style adventure
  22. game. Its graphics are just a little bit on the horrific side,
  23. but not so much as to cause any real concern.

  25. Monster Bash supports joystick as well as keyboard controls, and
  26. soundblaster/adlib cards are supported. This recent trend by the
  27. major shareware game manufacturers to support these cards is
  28. quite appreciated.

  30. Monster Bash does require quite a bit of free memory to run, so
  31. this can be a problem if you keep a lot of drivers loaded. Most
  32. games have this problem these days, so you should be prepared
  33. for this problem.

  35. In Monster bash, Johnny Dash's dalmation, Tex, has been
  36. kidnapped. As is usual, it is your job as JD to free all the
  37. pets kidnapped and save the world from the scourge of all
  38. humanity (of course, just as in every other game). You
  39. are equipped with a magical slingshot that never runs out of
  40. stones and can mutate if you jump and grab certain icons.

  42. Although it is a quite large download, I feel that Monster Bash
  43. is a really interesting and fun game, at least for a little
  44. while. This reviewer has no fondness for PC arcade games (that's
  45. why I got a SEGA), but Monster Bash may very well be just the
  46. thing that some other gamers are looking for.

  48. For your $39.00 registration fee, you receive hint/cheat sheets
  49. and two more sets of levels (and even better graphics!). Apogee
  50. is also one of the largest game companies in existence (even
  51. though it is a shareware company) and boasts great service.
